With everyone spending a lot more time at home than they used to, people are spending more time with the people they live with them. Whether it is your family or a person you found on Craigslist, quarantine is an opportunity to test how good of a roommate you actually are. Are you the reason the people around you are struggling to work from home? What are some dos and don’ts?
Follow the golden rule. Think about what you want someone to do for you. If you are getting to get a drink or a snack, ask if anyone else wants one. Give your roommates some alone time in shared spaces. Don’t be a bathroom hog.
What about if you are all working from home? What are some good ways to be courteous?
Make sure the people around you know if you are going to be in a zoom meeting, nobody really wants to do anything embarrassing. And that goes both ways, if your roommates are in a zoom meeting, be quiet and stay out of the way. If is not possible to be out of the way, use a zoom background so your roommates aren’t visible in the shot. And be kind, use headphones. It’ll make all the difference.
Have any more suggestions on how to live together during quarantine or any lesson learned the hard way? We’d love to hear your stories and advice.
